Crimping tools are used in wiring applications to attach a terminal or contact to an electrical conductor. Crimping tools reshape both the metal barrel and the conductor. As a rule, the creation of a proper crimp is a function of the electrical conductor, the crimp barrel, and the crimp tool. The electrical resistance of the crimp joint should be equal to, or less than, the resistance of an equal section of wire. The mechanical strength of crimped joints varies with the applied deformation.
